If you are a single parent you will find that getting back into the dating scene after being away from it for so long can be hard. It’s considerably harder if you have kids in your life too. Apart from working all day, taking the kids to one event or the other and spending the weekends with homework while also having to keep the house cleaning and grocery shopping up to date, where’s the time? What about the cost of babysitters and the actual dates itself? The whole idea of online dating can be quite intimidating.
The first thing you need to do is make a list of exactly what you’re looking for. At this point you are really only looking for someone to spend time with. Maybe go out on a date that doesnt involve talking about personal and intimate topics. We all need time to connect with someone else. Ensure that you follow the same rules for creating your profile within the online dating sites. Keep in mind that you need to include in your profile that you in fact have children. Let people know if they are with you full time or part time. Make sure that your profile mentions how important family is to you. There will always be people scared off by the fact you have children, but you probably don’t want to date them anyway. By doing this the chances of you finding someone with the same values of you inceases significantly. When browsing the online dating sites look for people who are interested in activities that involve family or for people that enjoy going to the Zoo etc. This way you’ll be able to find someone special enough to spend time with, they should be someone who can love your children too. Keep in mind that the kids are part of the packaged deal!
Your children and their safety are your first priority! Anything you do online can indirectly and directly influence their lives, both for the better or for the worse. They’ll need to be accepting of your new friend. You’ll need to be up front with them, on a level they can understand. Just listen to your intuition and you’ll know when it is the right time to introduce your new friend to your children.
